2013 The Year of Positive Comment

For some time now I have limited the amount of news I watch or hear. I want to know what is going on in the world but I don’t want to hear endless discussions and counter arguments by politicians; endless news about an economy in crisis or watch endless images of violence and tragedy. How much disaster can one person absorb while feeling completely helpless to change any of it?

Enough of the negative and let us bring in some  positive. You never know it might catch on?  If all you knew of the world was what you watched on the news or heard on the radio, you may be forgiven for thinking that the world was in collapse. The way we have chosen to run the world up to this point may be in crisis but everywhere there are people who are happy and making a success of life despite this. The world is made up of individuals and each individual has a choice, do you see your glass as half empty or half full?

I want to hear about people who are changing the world for the better. I want to hear how individuals are using their ingenuity to work with mother nature to harness her power for the good of everyone without stripping her bare. I want to hear positive news. How about on the news we had reported for every act of violence  also one of kindness; for every failure one of success.

This summer in the UK we had two huge celebrations, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics. The UK is a country that likes to be pessimistic and cynical yet this summer we joined together to cheer on our Queen and country. We had something positive to celebrate and we took it to our hearts and cheered, regardless of whether we were monarchists or sports minded. It did us all the world of good to have something to cheer  about and be glad in our hearts.

I saw a really good suggestion someone had posted on Facebook today: 538431_478516702186434_77293452_n

What a great idea! How quickly we forget those little things that make us smile, small kindnesses people do, there are always things to be grateful for and the more we look for them the more aware we become of how many things there are to cheer about.

Cyprus is going through a tough time at the moment, it is a little gem of a country that has been coveted and buffeted by the world throughout history. It has so many good things going for it and the people have always been resilient and enterprising. Individuals make a difference and I have no doubt that there are enough imaginative and ingenious people to make Cyprus a thriving country again. Don’t let us listen to negativity anymore we want positivity

Happy New Year to all the followers of this blog and may 2013 bring you the positive outcomes you wish for. Thanks for reading.

  1. Great post and good reminders, Sonia. Thanks.
I already do a form of recording the good things, but they tend more to be work oriented. I keep a notebook of the plans, hopes and goals I have each year, and one of the pages is ‘Surprises, opportunities and honours I got in 20__’ .
But I like the idea of keeping all the little personal moments too , and in a jar. Will do.
